Weddings are expensive we all know that, but as a planner it’s our job to help you find ways to maximize your budget while maintaining the WOW factor of your event. One of the keys to staying in your budget is not only selecting seasonal wedding flowers, but also regional as well. The key, is selecting flowers that are in season and grown LOCALLY or REGIONALLY. By selecting Ohio seasonal wedding flowers, you know they will be incredibly fresh, the quality will be outstanding and it will cut down on the cost.
WINTER
Dreaming of a wintery, wondrous wedding? Picture falling snow, a roaring fire and stunning winter wedding flowers that capture the magic of the season!
Not only is it a romantic time to tie the knot, it can also be more budget-friendly, with vendors offering off-season discounts especially on flowers!
Probably could have guessed it, but not much grows locally in the Cleveland area during the winter. Luckily, anemones are awesome, so we’ll take it!
Tip: Mirror the season’s winter white landscape with a wedding filled with all-white decor. You can stick with a solitary shade of white, or mix it up and add visual interest with different shades of white. Also, don’t bring your flowers outside if the temperature is below 35 degrees – they’ll freeze!
SPRING
Saying “I do” in the spring? There are so many gorgeous spring wedding flowers to pick from! Spring brings the perfect opportunity to use beautiful, seasonal flowers at an affordable price.
Flowers such as the oh-so-popular peony, novelty tulips, freesia, and SO much more- the list goes on, giving you plenty of options to create your springy arrangements!
Finally, some of our favorite beauties are coming to life in Cleveland! With all of these floral options, why pick something that isn’t local.
Tip: Spring flowers are gorgeous and the variety is incredible! However, a lot of spring flowers, like hyacinth and lilies, have strong scents. Think about whether you want your flowers to be scented (does anyone have allergies?) or if you’d like to stick with more neutral florals.
SUMMER
And the list keeps growing! Summer has an abundance of locally available flowers that are all different. Looking for summer wedding flowers? There are so any gorgeous, sturdy flowers in full bloom during the summer season (June, July and August). From freesia to lavender, chrysanthemums to peonies, you’ll find so many options to fit your vision and your budget. The key with summer is being cognizant of the heat and humidity.
Tip: Consider the heat! If you’re having an outdoor ceremony or reception in the summer, try and cut out any delicate flower that may wilt in high temperatures. You’ll want to especially consider boutonnieres, where there isn’t a water source and avoid flowers like lisianthus and ranunculus.
FALL
Bring on the gorgeous fall tones, and dahlias! Cleveland has so many breathtaking options available during the fall. If you’re looking for fall wedding flowers that won’t break the bank, consider budget-friendly options like gerbera daisies, roses, chrysanthemum disbuds and alstroemeria.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, you’ll find more expensive fall flowers, which include allium, anemones, celosia, dahlias, snowberry and stars of Bethlehem. You can, of course, still choose these flowers even if you’re on a budget, just consider pairing them with less expensive greenery and filler flowers to offset their cost.
Tip: You can also create wedding bouquets and arrangements using traditional fall colors like red, yellow and orange. Use sunflowers to add that cheerful yellow, terracotta roses to get that rustic orange, and red amaranthus to get that classic red.
Another option? Pure white. Ivory dahlias and white Veronicas will make for stunning fall bouquets and arrangements. Try pairing them with seeded eucalyptus to add a little bohemian whimsy!
No matter the time of the year, there are stunning options that will fit in your color palate, floral vision and price range. Keep in mind that this is a general list of in season wedding flowers. Some options listed under a particular season may only be available at the beginning of the season and not at the end.
